Adam works in the areas of nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literature, science and technology studies, and theories and histories of affect and feeling. He has published essays on Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allan Poe in Criticism, ELH, and Theory & Psychology, and has co-edited (with Eve Sedgwick) Shame and Its Sisters: A Silvan Tomkins Reader (Duke UP, 1995). Overpass! A Melodrama (Alien8 Recordings, 2007), a collaboration with composer Sam Shalabi, has recently been released on CD.
