Dear Arts One Students:
Congratulations on your admission to UBC and your decision to register in Arts One, a unique, highly regarded interdisciplinary program that has been enriching the first year student experience since September 1967. A warm welcome to all of you.
Whether you are registered in Group A (Explorations and Encounters) or Group B (Remake/Remodel) you will experience an impressive range of ideas and expertise from your instructors, a close-knit community in your seminars and tutorials, and a challenging, exciting, and rewarding introduction to university studies. In Arts One the “big” of UBC is made “small”: you are not just another student in a large class, but a member of the Arts One community. You will carry this experience with you throughout your university career and Arts One will continue to shape and define you for years to come.
We invite you to come visit our dedicated space in the Ike Barber Learning Centre (IBLC), third floor. There is a set of study areas mixed in with faculty offices that is reserved only for students in the first year “Gateway” programs: Arts One, Co-ordinated Arts Program (CAP), Science One, and Co-ordinated Science. It is a beautiful space with lots of windows and comfortable chairs. Please drop by our space, and the Arts One main office (IBLC 379) for a visit when you are at UBC.
If you have any questions about the program, please don’t hesitate to ask. You may email the main office at: arts.one@ubc.ca.
We’ll see you in September, if not before!
Sincerely,
Robert Crawford
Chair, UBC Arts One Program
